After working for a local builders’ merchants, Steven Morten decided to set up his own aggregates bagging business, aged just 21.

Initially based at his parents’ farm near Buxton in Derbyshire, he started to build up a loyal customer base. His brother, who had a fledging haulage business, looked after distribution. Steven still works with his brother, Chris, who now has a fleet of 15 vehicles.

During the early years Steven was working over 60 hours a week, doing everything needed to get the business off the ground: liaising with customers, doing the paperwork and accounts, manually bagging the aggregates and loading the delivery vehicles.

The hard work paid off and the business started to flourish, but after enjoying year-on-year growth, Steven’s company needed larger premises to cater for an expanding product range and increased demand for the aggregates.

He relocated to a large site within the Cemex quarry at Dove Holes, where he has continued to grow the business and employ more local people. In recent years Steven has added new buildings and bagging facilities, which use the latest automated bagging technologies.

Today, the company has an enviable reputation for quality and reliabiity; they supply a growing number of builders’ merchants with a range of bagged aggregates, sand and cement-based products and supply major building and infrastructure projects with bulk loads.
